Key takeaways
- Troscriptions sells methylene blue as ingestible troches. Just Blue is 16 mg per troche, 4 troches for $27 (as of Sep 2026), which works out to about $0.42 per mg.
- Troscriptions now says its products are available exclusively through healthcare practitioners. Some retailers, such as Hi-Life Vitamins, still list Just Blue at $27.
- The troche dissolves in your mouth, and Troscriptions warns it will temporarily stain your mouth, including your teeth, for 2 to 24 hours.
- On Trustpilot, troscriptions.com scores 2.9 out of 5 from 57 reviews, with complaints about customer service, staining and billing.
- NooBlue costs about $0.13 per mg in capsules and $0.06 per mg in drops. Our gummies avoid the blue mouth that troches and drops cause.
Is Troscriptions methylene blue worth it? For most buyers, no. Just Blue is a well-known product with a clear 16 mg dose and sensible safety warnings, but it costs about three times as much per milligram as NooBlue capsules, it stains your mouth while it dissolves, and the brand now routes sales through healthcare practitioners. If you want a measured methylene blue serving without the blue mouth, our pick is the NooBlue gummy. If you want the lowest cost per milligram, NooBlue’s 1% drops are the better buy. Troscriptions suits people who specifically want a troche, or who already see a practitioner who stocks it.
NooBlue makes methylene blue gummies, capsules and drops, so we compete with Troscriptions and have a stake in this review. We took every Troscriptions fact from its own product pages or its retailers, dated the prices, and linked the sources. Written by the NooBlue editorial team.

What Is Troscriptions?
Troscriptions is a US brand of ingestible troches, small lozenges that dissolve in the mouth. Its methylene blue range covers three products: Just Blue, Tro+ Blue and Blue Cannatine. The Troscriptions site also sells non-methylene blue troches for sleep and calm.
The biggest change for buyers is access. Each Troscriptions product page now carries the line “Troscriptions products are now available exclusively through healthcare practitioners”, with a map to find a provider. Retailers still list some products. Hi-Life Vitamins, for example, sells Just Blue at $27 for 4 troches (checked September 2026). If you have used Troscriptions before, expect to go through a practitioner or a third-party store rather than the brand’s own checkout.
Troscriptions Methylene Blue Products and Prices
Prices from the Troscriptions store, as of Sep 2026. Cost per mg is worked out from the stated methylene blue content.
| Product | Methylene blue per troche | Pack | Price | Cost per mg |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Just Blue | 16 mg, scored (“up to 16 doses” per pack) | 4 troches | $27 (3 packs $81) | About $0.42 |
| Tro+ Blue | 50 mg | 4 or 15 troches | $34 (4), $108 (15) | About $0.17 (4), $0.14 (15) |
| Blue Cannatine | Not stated on the product page | 4 troches | $30 | Can’t be calculated |
Just Blue is the flagship. Troscriptions describes each troche as “16mg of pharmaceutical-grade, purity/potency tested, methylene blue” and says the troches are scored so you can find your own dose, which is how a pack of 4 becomes “up to 16 doses” of about 4 mg each. The page names polyethylene glycol (PEG) as the troche base.
Tro+ Blue carries 50 mg per troche. Troscriptions positions it for times of significant physical stress. That is ten times a NooBlue capsule and five times a NooBlue gummy per unit.
Blue Cannatine combines methylene blue with caffeine, nicotine and CBD. The product page we checked does not give the amount of each. With nicotine and caffeine in the mix, it is a very different product from plain methylene blue, and it is harder to tell which ingredient is causing any effect you notice.
For more troche options, see our methylene blue troche comparison. For combination products, see methylene blue stacks.
How the Troche Format Works, and Its Trade-offs
A troche is held in the mouth until it dissolves. Troscriptions calls its troches “ingestible”, and some of the dose is swallowed as it dissolves. The trade-offs are practical:
- Staining. Troscriptions warns that Just Blue “will temporarily stain your mouth (including your teeth)”, and says the rate of discoloration varies between 2 to 24 hours. Blue dye sitting in the mouth is the cause. Capsules avoid it because you swallow them, and NooBlue gummies don’t leave the blue mouth or tongue that troches and drops can.
- Dose steps. A scored 16 mg troche can be broken into quarters of about 4 mg. That is workable, but a quarter of a small lozenge is harder to split evenly than it is to count drops or take one 5 mg capsule.
- Absorption. Troche marketing often suggests better absorption through the mouth. We found no published study measuring how much methylene blue a troche delivers compared with a swallowed capsule. Swallowed methylene blue is already well absorbed: in 16 healthy adults, a 500 mg oral dose had an average absolute bioavailability of 72.3% (Walter-Sack et al., 2009).
Our guides to methylene blue bioavailability and capsules vs liquid cover the absorption question for the other formats.
How Troscriptions Doses Compare With the Research
Troche doses are easier to judge when you put them on the same scale as the studies. For a 70 kg adult, the units work out like this:
| Unit | Methylene blue | Per kg for a 70 kg adult |
|---|---|---|
| NooBlue capsule | 5 mg | About 0.07 mg/kg |
| NooBlue gummy | 10 mg | About 0.14 mg/kg |
| Troscriptions Just Blue, whole troche | 16 mg | About 0.23 mg/kg |
| Troscriptions Tro+ Blue, whole troche | 50 mg | About 0.71 mg/kg |
| Single dose in the 2016 imaging trial | 280 mg | About 4 mg/kg |
Two things follow from this. First, even a whole Tro+ Blue troche is well below the single 280 mg dose used in the best-known human trial (Rodriguez et al., 2016), and no trial has tested daily use of any of these amounts. Second, the interaction risk does not wait for large doses. A review of reported cases found that an IV dose of only 0.75 mg/kg produced a peak blood level of 500 ng/mL, enough to block the enzyme MAO-A in the brain, and that severe serotonin toxicity has occurred at 1 mg/kg (Gillman, 2011). Swallowed methylene blue is well absorbed, so the rule is the same for every format and every serving: never combine it with serotonergic medicines.
A 50 mg unit is also ten times the NooBlue capsule serving. If a practitioner has not suggested that amount for you, a smaller serving is the sensible place to start. Our guide on how many mg of methylene blue per day covers starting amounts.
What the Research Says About Methylene Blue
Every brand in this review sells the same molecule, so the science behind it is shared. Methylene blue is a redox compound. In mitochondria it can carry electrons from NADH directly to cytochrome c, raising the activity of complex IV, the last step in the chain that makes cellular energy (Tucker et al., 2018). A review in Progress in Neurobiology describes a hormetic dose response in animal studies, with opposite effects at low and high doses (Rojas et al., 2012). Methylene blue is also a potent, reversible inhibitor of MAO-A (Ramsay et al., 2007), the property behind its main safety rule.
The human studies are small. In the 2016 imaging trial, 26 healthy adults took a single 280 mg dose or a placebo, and methylene blue was linked to changes in brain activity and a 7% increase in correct answers on a memory retrieval task (Rodriguez et al., 2016). In a 2014 trial, 42 adults with marked claustrophobic fear took 260 mg or placebo after an exposure session. Those whose fear had dropped during the session did better a month later on methylene blue, while those who ended the session still fearful tended to do worse (Telch et al., 2014). Both used single large doses, and neither tested a troche, a capsule or a gummy at supplement servings over time. Our article does methylene blue work? goes through the human evidence in full.
Troscriptions Methylene Blue Reviews: What Buyers Say
The largest public review source for the brand is Trustpilot. When we checked in September 2026, troscriptions.com had a TrustScore of 2.9 out of 5 from 57 reviews, and Trustpilot noted that the company hadn’t replied to negative reviews.
- Positive reviews praise the troche delivery and product quality, and several single out the brand’s sleep troche.
- Negative reviews center on customer service (no answer to emails or calls), staining of teeth, lips and tongue, and billing or subscription problems.
Treat any review site with care: reviews can’t tell you the dose someone took or what else they were using. Still, the staining complaints match Troscriptions’ own warning, and service complaints matter more now that buying goes through practitioners and third-party stores. For how other brands fare, see our methylene blue reviews roundup, our Meraki review and our MitoZen review.
Testing and Transparency
Troscriptions offers a “Request Certificate of Analysis” form on its product pages for the latest certificate. The certificate itself is not shown on the page, so you have to ask for it before you can read who tested what.
NooBlue publishes its lab report on each product page. It covers the raw methylene blue ingredient: Contract Testing Laboratories of America (CTLA) confirmed identity by HPLC and tested heavy metals on one ingredient lot. It does not certify each finished batch or give a purity percentage, and we say so on the page. Our guide on how to read a methylene blue certificate of analysis explains what to look for in any brand’s report, whichever you choose.
Troscriptions vs NooBlue: Side-by-Side

Methylene Blue Safety: What Drugs Should Not Be Taken With It?
These rules apply to Troscriptions troches and NooBlue products alike, and Troscriptions’ own warnings cover the same ground:
- Do not take methylene blue with an SSRI, SNRI, MAOI or any other serotonergic medicine, including many antidepressants, certain opioids and dextromethorphan. The combination can cause serotonin syndrome (StatPearls). Our guides to methylene blue and serotonin syndrome and methylene blue interactions list the classes.
- Do not take it if you have G6PD deficiency, because it can break down red blood cells.
- Do not take it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and it is not for anyone under 18.
- Talk to your doctor first if you take any prescription medicine or have a kidney or liver condition.
Methylene blue can turn urine blue or green, and that is expected. The same warnings sit in the “Safety: read before use” box on every NooBlue product page. Our methylene blue side effects guide covers what else to expect, and do you need a prescription for methylene blue? explains the different ways it is sold.
Switching From Troscriptions to NooBlue
If you have been using Just Blue and want to buy direct, here is how the amounts line up. These are equivalents by milligram, not a dosing plan.
- A quarter of a Just Blue troche (about 4 mg) is close to one NooBlue 5 mg capsule, or 8 drops of NooBlue 1% solution.
- Half a troche (about 8 mg) is close to one NooBlue 10 mg gummy, or 16 drops.
- A whole troche (16 mg) is more than the one-a-day label serving of either the capsule or the gummy.
NooBlue’s labels give one capsule or one gummy a day. Drops let you match an in-between amount in 0.5 mg steps. If a practitioner recommended Troscriptions to you, tell them before you switch, and follow the safety rules below either way. Our guide on how to take methylene blue drops explains how to count and measure.
Questions to Ask Before You Buy Any Methylene Blue
Whether you end up with Troscriptions, NooBlue or another brand, the same checks separate a product you can trust from one you are guessing about:
- How much methylene blue is in each unit, and in each serving? Just Blue answers this clearly (16 mg). Blue Cannatine’s page, as we saw it, does not. A liquid should state its strength, such as 1%, and how many milligrams a drop or a dropper holds.
- What else is in it? A troche needs a base (Troscriptions names PEG). A gummy needs a chew base and sweetener. NooBlue gummies list pectin, blueberry extract, stevia extract, sodium citrate and citric acid, with 0 g sugar. A stack such as Blue Cannatine adds caffeine and nicotine, which change how the product feels and who should avoid it.
- What does the lab report cover? Look for the lab’s name, the lot, and what was tested: identity, heavy metals, potency. Check whether it covers the raw ingredient or the finished product, and whether you can read it before you buy.
- Does the label carry the right warnings? A responsible methylene blue label warns against serotonergic medicines, G6PD deficiency, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Troscriptions’ pages and NooBlue’s pages both do.
- How will you actually take it? If a blue mouth would stop you using it, choose a capsule or a NooBlue gummy over a troche or drops.
- How do you buy and return it? NooBlue ships direct with free worldwide shipping on orders $100+, 30-day returns, and dispatch in 1 to 2 business days with tracking. Troscriptions now sells through practitioners and retailers, so returns depend on where you bought.
Who Should Buy Troscriptions Methylene Blue?
Troscriptions suits people who specifically want a troche, people who already see a practitioner who stocks it, and people who want a 50 mg unit (Tro+ Blue) under that practitioner’s guidance. It doesn’t suit anyone who minds a blue mouth and teeth, anyone who wants to buy direct at a low cost per milligram, or anyone who wants to start at a small, exact dose.
NooBlue suits people who want to buy direct: gummies for a fixed 10 mg with no blue mouth, capsules for a fixed 5 mg, and drops for 0.5 mg steps at the lowest cost. It doesn’t suit anyone who wants a troche, because we don’t make one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Troscriptions methylene blue better than NooBlue?
For most buyers, our pick is NooBlue. Just Blue gives a clear 16 mg dose, but it costs about $0.42 per mg against about $0.13 for NooBlue capsules and $0.06 for NooBlue drops, and it stains the mouth while it dissolves. NooBlue gummies give a measured 10 mg with no blue mouth. Troscriptions is the better fit only if you specifically want a troche.
How much methylene blue is in one Troscriptions Just Blue troche?
16 mg. Each pack has 4 troches, and the troches are scored so that a pack can give up to 16 doses of about 4 mg. Tro+ Blue has 50 mg per troche.
Can you still buy Troscriptions methylene blue?
Troscriptions says its products are now available exclusively through healthcare practitioners. Some retailers still list Just Blue, such as Hi-Life Vitamins at $27 for 4 troches (checked September 2026).
Does Troscriptions require a prescription?
Troscriptions does not describe its products as prescription-only. It says they are now available exclusively through healthcare practitioners, and its pages point buyers to a practitioner map. NooBlue methylene blue is sold direct, with no practitioner step.
Is Troscriptions methylene blue USP grade?
The Just Blue page describes “pharmaceutical-grade, purity/potency tested” methylene blue. To see the grade and the test results, you need to request the certificate of analysis through its form.
What is Tro+ Blue?
Tro+ Blue is Troscriptions’ higher-strength troche, with 50 mg of methylene blue each. It costs $34 for 4 or $108 for 15 (as of Sep 2026), and Troscriptions positions it for times of significant physical stress.
What is Blue Cannatine?
Blue Cannatine is a troche that combines methylene blue with caffeine, nicotine and CBD, at $30 for 4. The product page we checked does not state the amount of each ingredient, so its methylene blue dose can’t be compared directly.
Do Troscriptions troches stain your teeth?
Yes, temporarily. Troscriptions warns that Just Blue will stain your mouth, including your teeth, and that the discoloration lasts 2 to 24 hours. Staining is also a common theme in its Trustpilot reviews.
Why do I feel weird after taking methylene blue?
Headache, nausea and dizziness are listed side effects of methylene blue, and a large unit such as a 50 mg troche is a big step up from a 5 mg serving. If you also take a serotonergic medicine and feel agitated, sweaty, shaky or confused, or your heart is racing, get medical help straight away.
Why don’t doctors recommend methylene blue?
The evidence for everyday use is thin, and the interaction risk with common antidepressants is real. WebMD says there isn’t enough reliable information to know whether oral methylene blue is safe, and an MD Anderson physician writing in 2026 recommended working with a provider familiar with its use. Troscriptions’ move to practitioner-only sales fits that advice.
Why do I feel so good on methylene blue?
Some people report feeling more alert, but the human data are small. In the best-known trial, 26 healthy adults took a single 280 mg dose (about 4 mg/kg) or a placebo, and methylene blue was linked to a 7% increase in correct answers on a memory retrieval task (Rodriguez et al., 2016). Expectation also shapes how a new supplement feels. See does methylene blue work? for the full evidence.
Troscriptions Methylene Blue Review 2026: Final Verdict
Troscriptions makes a clearly labeled 16 mg troche with sensible warnings, but you pay about $0.42 per milligram for it, you get a blue mouth while it dissolves, and you now need a practitioner or a third-party store to buy it. For most people, a NooBlue gummy gives a measured serving without the stain, and NooBlue drops give the lowest cost per milligram. Pick the format that fits your day.
